How Municipal Directory handles directory records, cookies, and advertising.

Who we are
Municipal Directory publishes an index of US municipalities, the counties and regions they belong to, and their public officials, compiled from state-level municipal publications. The site is run independently and is not affiliated with any city, county, state, or federal agency.

Information in the directory
The directory holds public information about local governments and the officials who serve them: names, positions, office contact details, and links to the source record. It does not hold information about private individuals who are not public officials. Corrections can be sent to contact@municipaldirectory.org.
Information collected automatically
As with most websites, the server logs standard request information — IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, and timestamp — for security and operational purposes. No separate analytics service is used. Request logs are kept only as long as security and troubleshooting require, then discarded. The site has no user accounts and takes no payment information.
Cookies and advertising
Advertising on this site is served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve and measure ads and to personalize advertising based on earlier visits to this and other websites.

Where the law requires it, consent is requested before advertising cookies are set or personal data is used for personalized advertising. A choice can be changed or withdrawn through the consent message shown on the site.
Consent
Consent is collected and managed with Google’s consent management platform, provided through Google AdSense. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland see a consent message before personalized advertising cookies are used, and visitors in US states with an applicable opt-out right see a US state privacy message. A choice can be changed or withdrawn at any time through that message or the Google Ads Settings link above.
Third-party links and maps
Directory entries link out to state and municipal source websites, which have their own privacy practices and are outside our control.
City pages embed maps from OpenStreetMap. Loading one sends your IP address, browser information, and the referring site to the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s servers, under the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s privacy policy rather than this one.
Data sharing
Service providers handle hosting, security, and infrastructure. Advertising data is handled by Google and its partners as described above. Personal information is not sold. Information may be disclosed where the law requires it.
Children
This is a directory of government information and is not directed to children under 13. Personal information from children is not knowingly collected.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may be able to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of personal information. Requests go to contact@municipaldirectory.org, and may need to be verified before they are answered.
Changes
This policy may be updated as the site or applicable law changes; the effective date above is revised whenever that happens.
